Attaining hypnotic, fluid worlds of sound, Richard Pike’s music explores themes of repetition, stasis, regeneration, and rebirth. A multi-disciplinary composer, sound artist, singer and label curator, his practice lies at the intersections of experimental, ambient, techno, jazz and hybrid orchestral.
In his music classical minimalism and detailed electroacoustic sound design build trance-like polyrhythmic environments, that unfold into hybrid musique concrete and unexpected harmony.
Richard’s work is often described as uncategorisable, crossing the worlds of indie rock and art pop with his act PVT on Warp Records, modern New Age Jazz expressions with his trio Forgiveness on Gondwana Records, and a breadth of energetic narratives across his award-nominated TV soundtracks, ranging from string ensembles, solo piano, to pure analog synthesis. Bringing to mind contemporaries Oneohtrix Point Never, Bobby Klric and Ben Frost.
He is also regarded for the intimate world-building of his practice of slow, meditative music under his moniker Deep Learning, scoring music for psychedelic therapy with Wavepaths, and curating his label Salmon Universe Records championed by Hannah Peel, Mary Anne Hobbs, Fact Magazine, The Quietus and more.
His latest album ‘Evergreen’ featured on Bandcamp’s Best Electronic, and has recently supported UK luminaries James Holden and Gold Panda. Nominated for an AACTA Award for his first ever TV score for Romper Stomper he is also sought after for installation work, including with London's United Visual Artists and Sydney's Collider.
